Healthy Diet After Lap Band Surgery

After you have a Boston Lap Band surgery it is very important that you follow the doctor prescribed diet. The reason you are having the Boston bariatric surgery in the first place is to help you lose weight, so you should already be committed to a healthy diet before you actually consider the surgery. Once you are ready to eat healthy you need to consider there are some major limitations on foods and drinks after you have the Boston lapband surgery. For example, afterwards you will not be allowed to have any caffeine for three months. This includes coffee, tea, and colas. Carbonated beverages are not allowed either so you will need to forget about all diet colas, regular colas, or even carbonated water. The carbonation extends the stomach and is a big no no for Boston lapband patients. After the initial clear liquid diet, patients must go on a five to six week liquid diet including protein shakes, baby food, clear gelatin, soup, and the like. The second six weeks allows patients to eat shredded foods. It is important to eat high protein meals and focus on healthy foods rather than empty calories because the stomach will only be able to hold four to six ounces at each meal.
