Acid Reflux: Proper Knowledge
Acid reflux is a problem that a person experiences when the acid in the food that one intakes could not be handled by the esophagus.
Since the stomach walls are made up of hydrochloric acid (muratic acid or HCl) to digest the food, the patient shouldn’t really feel that much pain. But there are times that the esophagus can’t force the food into the stomach and the lesser pressure can cause the acid from the food taken and the stomach may flow back to the esophagus. Once the acid would climb up, it would create a painful heart burn and an acidic taste in the mouth, which are two of the most common acid reflux symptoms. This condition has been known for some time already but its causes are still pretty much a mystery but the most commonly cited are pregnancy, hiatial hernia and asthma. Some lifestyle factors are smoking, overeating, stress and eating for salty and fatty foods.
Physicians really recommend a healthy lifestyle to avoid this condition. Although it usually goes away by itself but there are cases when a person might need acid reflux treatment. There are several kinds of therapies such as positional therapy which involves the position into which patients should sleep on. A lot of studies say that sleeping on the left side would reduce night time reflux. There is also the drug treatment, the surgical treatments and a lot others. Some people also prefer the acid reflux natural treatment which involves control the food and products that patient takes.
